The Subaru Outback comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine on the Base, Premium, Limited, Touring, and Onyx Editions models. The Subaru Ascent has a standard 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 260-horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque.

While the Ascent has the strong performance and ability to tow 5,000 pounds, over the standard 2,700 pounds from the Outback, the lineup of Outback SUVs has multiple models that match the output of the Ascent.
